Golf Course Maintenance Updates

The summer season is upon us and the maintenance crew will be fully staffed by the end of the month which will enable us to start doing some of the projects around the course we've got planned instead of just trying to keep up with the mowing. Some of the projects include addressing the drainage issues and getting some of the bare areas filled in with sod. We want to thank everyone for staying out of the native grass areas. This will hopefully be a good year for growth since there has been so much moisture. With this being said, there have been a plethora of incidents on the course where a golfer has struck the green and created a gouge or a complete divot. This has been happening more and more, and we need your help! Unfortunately the problem is severe enough that if at any time the maintenance crew, clubhouse staff, or any other outside surveillance catches a golfer doing this on a green, the golfer will be prohibited from play for a designated amount of time. With summer, comes mosquito season too. Just a reminder that bug repellant does kill the grass, so when spraying yourself, please do so on the concrete. Finally, each month when receiving Turkey Creek news, a "Fun Fact" will also be included in order to educate new and current golfers to golf course lingo they may not be aware of! This month's "Fun Fact" is The 90 Degree Rule! Most golfers have no idea what the 90 degree rule means and almost all golf courses operate with this rule at all times. The "rule" states that a golfer runs the cart parallel to the fairway, in the rough or on the cart path, until they reach their ball. Then they take the cart at a 90 degree angle across the fairway, stop and hit their ball, and then continue across the fairway to the other side. Then, run the cart parallel to the fairway until they reach the ball and repeat the process again until the golfer gets to the green in which the player parks their cart on the path and putts out. This keeps carts from driving down the middle of fairways all the way to the green and keeps traffic down inside the fairway, which in the long run, insures fairways to stay healthier, look better, and play great!
